In a highly volatile session on July 13, the Indian stock market witnessed modest gains as the Sensex and Nifty closed in positive territory. The market hit record highs earlier in the day, driven by the performance of the information technology, metal, and realty sectors.
At the closing bell, the Sensex was up 164.99 points or 0.25% at 65,558.89, while the Nifty rose 29.50 points or 0.15% to reach 19,413.80. The market breadth showed 1,322 shares advancing, 2,037 shares declining, and 129 shares remaining unchanged.
Sector Performance
Selling pressure was observed in the auto, capital goods, FMCG, healthcare, oil & gas, and power sectors. On the other hand, the banking, metal, realty, and information technology sectors experienced buying interest.

- The market opened on a strong note, supported by positive global cues, and hit fresh record highs in the early hours. The Sensex crossed the 66,000 level for the first time.
- However, the market witnessed a sharp decline in the last hour of trading due to profit booking in PSU banks, oil & gas, and power stocks. Despite the pullback, the market managed to close with modest gains.
- The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 touched new record levels of 66,064.21 and 19,567, respectively. The BSE Midcap index reached a new high of 29,420.55, while the Smallcap index recorded a fresh high of 33,746.89.
Key Gainers and Losers
Among the top gainers on the Nifty were Hindalco Industries, TCS, Infosys, LTIMindtree, and Tech Mahindra. On the other hand, Power Grid Corporation, Coal India, BPCL, UPL, and Maruti Suzuki ended the session as the top losers.
