Haryana Weather Alert: Chandigarh Meteorological Department Predicts Heavy Rains in 16 Districts – Tricity News Hub Report
As per the latest updates from the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, a significant shift in weather is expected across various regions of Haryana today. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for 16 districts across northern, southern, and southeastern Haryana, marking an impending extreme weather condition.
Northern Haryana’s districts like Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, and Karnal are on high alert. The yellow alert also includes the southern and southeastern districts such as Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat, and Panipat. Residents are advised to stay safe and avoid venturing out unnecessarily.
For the third consecutive day, rains continue to lash the city of Rewari, significantly affecting the daily lives of residents. Streets are waterlogged, making it difficult for people to step out of their homes. Despite a drop in temperature, the high humidity levels due to intermittent sunlight are causing discomfort.
With the monsoon in full swing, the floodwaters of Ghaggar and Yamuna rivers have infiltrated over 80 villages in Haryana. This has led to severe consequences, with 1,378 villages and 12 districts being severely affected by the floods. Unfortunately, 34 lives have been lost in the disaster, with 2 people still reported missing.
The government is now preparing to declare a state of emergency due to floods in the region. In light of the situation, reports from the District Commissioners of the affected districts have been requested.
The declaration of a state of flood in Haryana will enable the government to seek relief as per the norms for flood-affected states. Although the central government has provided an immediate relief amount of Rs 216 crores, the extent of the damage surpasses this aid significantly. An announcement to compensate Rs 4 lakh each to the bereaved families has been made.
The Haryana government is well-prepared to manage this crisis. Aid ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1.20 lakhs will be given for damaged houses. A new category of compensation for milk producers will be introduced in the event of livestock loss. If a farmer’s entire crop is destroyed, assistance of Rs 15,000 per acre will be provided.
