Rahul Gandhi Advocates Farmer’s Rights in Haryana Visit | Tricity News Hub
Indian National Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, made a strong case for the importance of farmers in the nation-building process during his recent visit to Madina village in Sonepat, Haryana. His interaction with the farming community was a part of his ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra.’
Mr. Gandhi has always been vocal about his admiration for India’s agricultural community. On Sunday, he lauded farmers as the nation’s strength and commented on how many of the country’s issues could be resolved if their voices were heard. The Congress leader took to Twitter to share his sentiments. “Farmers are the strength of India,” he tweeted in Hindi. He made these comments after spending time with two farmers, Sanjay Malik and Tasbir Kumar, in Haryana.
The twelve-minute video shared on social media showcases Gandhi’s personal involvement in rural life – ploughing the fields, planting paddy saplings, and engaging in discussions with the farmers and their families. He later sat down for a meal with the farmers, emphasizing the simplicity and honesty of rural life.
Gandhi underscored the significance of the farming community in his interactions. He highlighted their contribution towards uniting India as the produce they generate graces every household in the nation. Despite their invaluable ‘tapasya’ or dedicated hard work, he noted, it often goes unrecognized and underappreciated.
He also pointed out the struggles and challenges farmers are facing due to inflation and privatization in the agriculture sector. By paying heed to their concerns and understanding their viewpoint, Gandhi believes the country can tackle many of its problems effectively.
Supporting Gandhi’s statements, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh added that farmers voiced their struggles, dreams, and grievances during Gandhi’s visit. They highlighted their wish to provide a good education to their children, but unfortunately, sufficient help from the government seems elusive.
Emphasizing the importance of farmers, Ramesh stated, “We salute the struggle of farmers and agricultural workers. We firmly believe that farmers are the backbone of our country. We should listen with respect and humility to everything they say.”
